Major Spoilers Test Cast

Posted on May 8, 2011 by Stephen Schleicher

In case you didn’t see us do it live

Video streaming by Ustream

We had to do a reset, and we didn’t record the second hour of the show, but again, this was all a test for something bigger coming down the pipe… providing we get enough recurring donations.

To quote the infamous Rebecca Black:

WE WE WE SO EXCITED…. :)

Ahhh, increasing the crazy hedonism of the weekend!

ReplyOldcomicfan says:May 8, 2011 at 10:25 am

Well…. there’s no way to say this kindly…. but if I wanted to look at an old balding fat guy, I’d look in a mirror.

Seriously, though, if you were to go video format, is there any way to do it where you could have Matthew and Rodrego on screen while they are talking, too?

I’d really hate to see Major Spoilers go video though. As it is now, I can listen to the show while pre-flighting window and door brochure art or typesetting business cards, but if you went video I’d only be able to watch the show at home – and when Super Happy Anime Fun Time went video, they fell off my radar. I’m usually doing other things on the weekend and if I am going to spent time planted in front of the computer there are lots more…. um… stimulating things to look at than you fine fellows. :P

Keep up the good work!

Well Scott… This clearly says it is a test, so what we shared here is not the final product. And since this was a live stream, for those who have been asking for it, it is more for them than those who are not. As far as seeing the other two co-hosts, Rodrigo is usually in studio with me, and since you are still relatively new to the site, you probably were not around when we did our previous live show and we did switch between cameras. So, bottom line, your mileage may vary, and enjoy the continued free content.

Will the MSP go all video? No. This is a live stream. You’ll always have an audio feed option.

I think it’s kinda cool that we don’t get to see Matthew: it keeps him somewhat mysterious. :D

That’s my plan… I’m an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, dipped in batter for tempura.

I’ve never listened to your podcasts, so this is the first time I’ve heard your voices–you have good voices for broadcasting!

And I have it on good authority that my speaking voice and my written “voice” are pretty damn similar, which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on how one looks at it. :D

So is this the podcast that will be up on the site next saturday?

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 1:43 pm

No.

Replybrainypirate says:May 8, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Is the previous video-cast still available online?

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 4:08 pm

No. These are only tests… Consider this your behind the scenes look at things we are working on.

ReplyNavarre says:May 8, 2011 at 3:54 pm

It is new and interesting to see a video version of the MS podcast. I think the challenge would be to keep it interesting over time once the newness wears off.

Watch people talk to each other isn’t very compelling, especially if you only see one person. It has sort of a “what’s the point?”feel.

But if there are visual elements you can bring into it; something the audio cast could never truly capture, then that would be worthwhile. Either way, I agree with others that the audio podcast needs to remain and that seems to be your intention anyway.

Perhaps the one place where the video format could really shine is the Critical Hits podcast. Although there may be challenges with camera direction and including everything required to maximize the impact, I think many viewers would be excited to see a “live” D&D game happening right before their eyes.

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there will never be a live cast of Critical Hit.

And to repeat… this is a test.. Do you really think if we were going to do a video show it would be just one person on the screen? Matthew, Rodrigo, and I collectively have 50 years of video production experience and we all know talking heads are boring. This was a technical test to test new features we have available to us.

If you want to know what else is going on, I suggest everyone get on board the complete Major Spoilers Experience. In the last video test stream I did a week ago, someone called in to ask where this was leading, and I did share some of where this is going. If you missed it… well… just keep watching the site.

ReplyNavarre says:May 8, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Yes, I got that it was a test. You were clear about that. I think putting the word “Test” in the title may have been my first clue.

Why would there never be a live cast of Critical Hit?

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 4:45 pm

It’s more fun and entertaining to have the show released on a weekly basis.

ReplyNavarre says:May 8, 2011 at 4:53 pm

I agree that a weekly format is best. Is that not possible with a video version? Too much production time required maybe?

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Yes. A lot of production required, and we don’t have the funding to do that.

ReplyNavarre says:May 8, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Understood. I’m sure that would be a larger endeavor.

Still, it sounds like it’d be fun so I’ll keep dreaming. Maybe some government bail-out money will come in and you can use that. ;-)

ReplyStephen Schleicher says:May 8, 2011 at 5:56 pm

I’m sure there are more people/businesses deserving of that money than we are. I’m just thankful there are those people who have become recurring donors to the site. If we could hit that mythical 100% buy-in from all the podcast listeners, we be set. Way things look right now, that 100% is a long long long long long way off.

ReplyNavarre says:May 8, 2011 at 5:59 pm

This may be off-topic for the subject but I am curious about donations. I’ll post something on the forum instead.

But I agree that donations could make more things possible. Maybe you really could build Stately Spoiler Manor.
