#42 CBD DC Draft

Every week Comic Book Daily asks the question and the crew (and special guests) give their answers; we’ll be doing this for 52 weeks. Tip of the hat goes to the gang at Scans Daily for the inspiration and Ed Campbell for this week’s question.

Since DC is going to “re-launch” (not reboot) the entire DC Universe, what is your ideal creative team for which book in the DC relaunch?

Greg Hyland (Writer/illustrator of the cult classic Lethargic Lad & Lego Star Wars)

Chris Ware

Chris Ware on Superman.

Peter (DeCourcy): Oh man, can you imagine how awesome he’d make the legalese?

Anthony Falcone (Writer of Whosoever Holds This Hammer)

John Romita Jr.

I have a couple on my wish list. I would give Superman to Paul Jenkins and John Romita Jr. Jenkins did amazing (and completely under-appreciated) work on Peter Parker Spider-Man. He knows how to take a book and stay true to the character. Superman needs someone who will just write good Superman stories and not do awful junk like make him walk around for 14 issues. JRJR is one of the best storytellers the medium has ever seen. And the Big Blue Cheese is one character that we have not seen him work on.

I would also love it if Marcos Martin and Christopher Priest took over Batman. Priest’s work on Black Panther was exceptional and Martin’s style is white hot right now.

Greg: John Romita Jr. draws heroes that look more “solid” than any other artist working these days… and Superman NEEDS to look solid. Good call!

Chris (Howard): Oh hells yeah.  Right around his Punisher days he started that blocky, angular thing he does now and Supes would look great. Take a pic of Sentry and scribble Dark hair and the S on his chest.

Ed Campbell (Blogger – Trust Me I Know What I’m Doing)

Ed Brubaker

I would like to see Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting work on Superman.  They have done excellent work on Captain America, and I feel they would do an awesome job with Superman.  If Steve Epting could make Superman’s art look like Captain America, it would be a gritty and realistic book, very different from how Superman is usually represented.

Scott VanderPloeg (Editor In Chief, PITA to all CBD contributors)

Steve Rude

Steve Rude on The Fourth World: let’s revive things with this classic style artist.  Rude has that timeless silver age look to his art that would be utilized fully on the plethora of Fourth World material, especially Mr. Miracle and Big Barda.
